3/31/09 1 Kings 19:1-13

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
The He said, “go out and stand on the mountain in the Lord’s presence.” At that moment, the LORD passed by. A great and might wind was tearing at the mountains and was shattering cliffs before the LORD, But the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after he fire there was a voice, a soft whisper. (1 Kings 19:11-12 Holman)
OBSERVATION:
The mighty prophet Elijah is on the run from the powerful Jezebel. Starving and dying of thirst in the desert, God provides food and water for Elijah. Elijah needs more confirmation of God’s presence and provision. After the spectacle of wind storm, earthquake, and fire, the Lord makes divine presence known and felt in the still small voice.
APPLICATION:
Sometimes I feel as I if I am in the tempest of windstorm that the ground shakes beneath my feet and not only is the candle burning at both ends but my world seems on fire. In these times I reach out for the presence of the Lord while forgetting. The Lord has always been there right in the midst of life with a still, small whisper reminding me I am loved and cared for by HIM.
PRAYER:
Lord, I thank you for your ever presence in my life. Clear my ears so that I can hear your small whisper in my heart and know life.
YES:
I will listen for that still small whisper.

3/30/09 Luke 6:27-37

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. (Luke 6:35-36 NAS)
OBSERVATION:
These are the words of Jesus which follows the great blessings and woes passage, also known as The Beatitudes. These were counter-cultural ideas in the first century. Jesus calls the listener and reader to aspire to the best within themselves.
APPLICATION:
These are still counter-cultural words. Modern society is a “me” first society. We all have to guard against these ideas creeping into our ways of living. We would rather hold a grudge or remember some past malfeasance made against us rather than live in peace, because the latter is hard. But we are to remember that despite of ourselves, despite the ways we have sinned against God, we are loved and God desires not to condemn us but to love us.
PRAYER:
Lord forgive me when I have sinned against you by sinning against my brother and sister. Teach me to live in you so that all might know your Grace and Love.
YES:
I will be lead to forgive as God has forgiven me.

3/28/09 Galatians 5: 16-25

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us walk by the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-25 NAS)
OBSERVATION:
In opposition to the desires of the flesh is the fruit of the flesh. It is interesting that it is not fruits but fruit. We are given all fruit as one if we accept to live and walk in the Spirit of God.
APPLICATION:
We have been given the freedom to choose between good and bad. But we must rely not on ourselves but the Spirit to lead. Knowing our Lord and Savior went to the cross to over come the power of sin should be empowering for us. These example of fruit; love, peace patience… are ways we can live in the Spirit but it requires doing.
PRAYER:
LOrd forgive me when I have chosen to be lead by the desires of the flesh and not by your Spirit. Teach me to use the fruit you have given.
YES:
I will say yes to being led by the Holy Spirit.

3/27/09 Ecclesiastes 3:1-21

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
God has made everything appropriate in its time, He has also put eternity in their hearts, but man cannot discover the work God has done from beginning to end, I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and enjoy the good life (Ecclesiastes 3:11-12 HCSB).
OBSERVATION:
These verses follow the great Ecclesiastes passage often called a “time for everything”. One of the most metaphysical gifts we have been given is the gift of time. We can not control it or truly determine what happens within time. We can only live in time. So in all things we are to rejoice and enjoy a life with God.
APPLICATION:
I, like many, think we can manage our time. Look at our calendars, watches and day planners. But things interrupt what we might have planned. We might wake with a full calendar of events and the child is sick and the day is over the plans are out the window. It would be tempting to see the day as a waste of time but in reality it is time to spend with one I love.
PRAYER:
Lord, I give you thanks for time and how you break into my life at all times. In times of good or bad let me always rejoice and enjoy life with you.
YES:
I will say yes to looking for God’s presence in all the “times” in my life.

3/26/09 Galatians 6:1-10

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speaks to you)
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Galatians 6:10 NIV)
OBSERVATION:
This verse is at the end of a passage that not only talks about doing good in all things but the importance of holding each other accountable. Actions matter and we are to watch our own actions and correct the actions of others.
APPLICATION:
Our modern culture seems to still see the importance of “good” actions. But good actions often come with a “what is in it for me” mentality. This is not what the passage is calling for, the ends of good actions is so that grace might abound for all.
Our modern culture also does not seem to hold corporate accountability in high regards. It seems even personal accountability only comes into conversation when there is a public malfeasance. Christians are called to a higher accountability. We are called to watch over each other and in love correct with others stray.
PRAYER
Lord thank you for my friends and family and faith. May we also hold each other accountable to your love so that love might continually grow.
YES:
I will ask others to hold me accountable and do the same for others.

3/25/09 Mark 10:13-16

SCRIPTURE
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you.)
When Jesus say this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder the, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. (Mark 10:14-15 NIV)
OBSERVATION:
Jesus is “indignant” at those who prevent full access of children to divine grace. In the 1st century, children held no status, they were marginalized.
APPLICATION:
Even today we marginalize and segregate. The power and wealthy often use influence who is marginalized and who receives physical grace. But in the Kingdom it is the marginalized who receive full access to the Kingdom.
PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me for when I have, intentionally and unintentionally, blocked access to you. Use me as a vessel of our grace.
YES:
I will pursue ministry to, for and with the marginalized.

3/24/09 2 Corinthians 2:6-16

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you.)
We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us (1 Corinthians 2:16 NIV)
OBSERVATION
A promise of the Holy Spirit is given to us. The Holy Spirit help us receive the gift of grace (which is freely given) so that we may have life in love and light not darkness and sin.
APPLICATION:
When the temptations and spirits of this world assault me, I need not fear. God’s Spirit is right with me… teaching me, showing me love, and empowering me to receive and share God’s grace.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for your ever presence in my life.
YES:
I will say yes to the Holy Spirit and NO!! to the spirit of this world.

3/23/09 Matthew 21:12-17

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
“Yes”, replied Jesus, “have you never read, ‘from the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’”. (Matthew 21:16b NIV)
OBSERVATION:
This passage of from the triumphant entry we know as Palm Sunday. Jesus is quoting from what we know as Psalm 8:2. Jesus reminding the spiritual elite of the day those mere children are more responsive to the actions of God than they.
APPLICATION:
God’s self revelation seems to come to the least first. We need to listen to those who believe and try to tell us the presence of the Lord in these days.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for your constant in-breaking in our world. Teach me to see and believe with the heart and soul of a child.
YES:
I will expect God’s revelation and presence in my world.

3/21/09 Psalm 119:43-48

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speaks to you)
Never take the word of truth from my mouth, for I hope Your Judgments I will always keep Your Law forever and ever. I will walk freely in an open place because I seek Your precepts I will speak of Your decrees before kings and not be ashamed. I delight in Your commands which I love. I will lift up my hands to Your commands which I love and will meditate on Your statutes.
OBSERVATION:
There is life giving strength in having a relationship with the Lord. The Lord gives guidance in Scripture (and written upon our hearts). This verse reminds us we are strong in vulnerability (“walking in the open”) and before power (“speaking of Your decrees before kings”). We are to simply love God, search Scriptures, and pray.
APPLICATION:
This passage also reminds me of our habit of relying on the self. We must keep God’s message close to our hearts and minds so that our actions can show life with God.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for your message found in Scripture and written upon our hearts. Open my eyes, clear my ears, and warm my heart to your law and love so that I may always abide in that strength.
YES
I will continually search the Scriptures

3/20/09 1 Samuel 3:1-10

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord before Eli And word from the Lord was rare in those days, visions were infrequent… The Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for Thy servant is listening,” (1 Samuel 3:1,10 NAS)
OBSERVATION
The temple priests (Eli’s sons) had strayed far from observing God’s word found in Torah. Those who were “charged” with the responsibility of knowing, living and sharing God’s message were no longer able to be tellers of God’s word or vessels for God to pour vision into. God chose the least likely person in the Temple, young Samuel.
APPLICATION
Our world has many options for “enlightenment”. We can choose to follow a personal path toward personal growth and never open God’s message of love and hope. We can lose sight of God’s promise through Jesus Christ. But if we just listen, in the midst of din of modern life, God will call us to do extraordinary life and ministry.
PRAYER
Lord, from the midst of this noisy modern world let me respond to your call to grow deeper into relationship with you. Use me to be a vessel of your Word in this world. Erase my visions of what might be and show me what will be in you.
YES
I will respond to God’s call

3/19/09 2 Corinthians 3:2-4

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. (2 Corinthians 3:2-3 NIV)
OBSERVATION:
Letters in the ancient world were extremely important means of communication. Believers described as living letters demonstrates the creative power of God and how Christ has commissioned us to be carriers of Good News.
APPLICATION:
I believe the message of God’s love is written upon our hearts. The study of Holy Scripture and belief in Jesus Christ brings this message from heart to mind. Therefore our actions should show God’s love.
PRAYER:
Lord, please help me know how you have placed in my heart your message of love. Empower me to use all of my body and life to share your love with others.
YES
I will search for, receive and share God’s message of Love through Jesus Christ.

3/`8/09 Genesis 3:8-12

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speaks to you)
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?”
OBSERVATION
This is one of the earliest examples in the Bible of God seeking relationship with God. Metaphorically, it also shows how God “walks” with people. Finally this is most often called “The Fall” passage, our sin.
APPLICATION:
We have the ablitiy to make choices which can separate us from God. Adam and Eve do not seek the counsel of God but choose to receive the advice of a snake. It is important to, in all things, seek the counsel of the Lord. This is done by searching Scriptures, prayer, and relationships with others who are constantly seeking the Lord.
PRAYER:
Lord forgive me for when I have made quick choices with out seeking your counsel. Let me give thanks for your ever presence and how you walk with me each and every day.
YES:
I will seek the Lord’s counsel through Scripture, prayer, and covenant relationships.

3/17/09 Proverbs 9:1-12

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
Wisdom has built her house she has hewn out her seven pillars; She has prepared her food, she has also set her table; She has sent out her maidens, she calls fro the tops of the heights of the city whoever is naïve , let him turn in here! To him who lacks understanding she says, “come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed: forsake your folly and live, and proceed in the way of understanding. (Proverbs 9:1-6 NAS)
OBSERVATION
In the ancient world, Wisdom had a personification. Most often described with feminine attributes or as a female. More importantly wisdom was seen as a gift from God.
APPICATION
We often think of wisdom as something we gain or achieve. We go to school to gain wisdom or events in life teach us wisdom. In this way of thinking we miss that the wisdom of God is already given as a gift and “learned” through the trial and experience of life. We can learn wisdom but we can not make wisdom.
PRAYER
Lord, show me your ways and teach me so I might gain insight to the wisdom of a life with you.
YES
I will continually search the scriptures and life to learn about the gift of Wisdom.

3/16/09 John1:1-5

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse(s) which speak to you)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. ( John 1:1-5 NAS)
OBSERVATION
With mystical language Scripture reminds of the creative nature of God; of how the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer is the light of this world. The light was made visible in Christ. All who live in that light have life.
APPLICATION:
We have the free will choice to live in light or seek darkness. We must always be seeking the light knowing sometimes we have been given the honor of providing light to others who live in the dark.
PRAYER:
Lord, show me your light and let me tell of your Glory.
YES:
I will seek the light.

New Chapel Scripture Study

Matthew 18: 21-35 21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times? 22Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. “ 23“Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24As he began the settlement, a man who owed him 10 thousand talents was brought to him. 25Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt. 26The servant fell on his knees before him, be patient with me he begged, and I will pay you back everything. 27 The servants master took pity on him and canceled the debt and let him go. 28”But when the servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to chock him. “Pay back what you owe me! He demanded. 29”His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, “Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.” 30”But he refused. Instead he went off and had the man thrown in prison until he could pay the debt. 31When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened. 32 “Then the master called the servant in. “You wicked servant,’ he said I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you? 34In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. 35”This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart”

Scripture: Lord how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me?
Observation: Sometimes it’s hard to forgive our brother even the first time he has wronged us because perhaps, others have wronged us the same way before. And I believe we have a difficult time forgiving ourselves when we have stumbled. I believe God wants us to.

Application: No matter what needs to be done to forgive, it is necessary go thru the steps to forgiveness for your own well being.

Prayer: Lord you know my difficulties in forgiving, please help me thru the steps that I may stay on your path. Help me to see my brothers with fresh eyes.

Yes: I will look to the Lord’s direction and help on forgiving others and myself.

3/13/09 Isaiah 49:13-16

What Speaks to You?

SCRIPTURE: Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; burst into song, O mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.
But Zion said, "The Lord has forsaken me." "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands, your walls are ever before me.

OBSERVATION: There is no cause to be down, because the Lord will always comfort his people and especially those that are afflicted.

APPLICATION: So why worry? The Lord is always with us and will care for us like a mother cares for her child.

PRAYER: Lord, Thank you for you love and nurturing. Keep me close so that I don't stray and try again to do things on my own.

YES: I will shout of Joy and Praise knowing the Lord will always be there for me.

3/12/09 Luke 8:4-8

What speaks to you?

SCRIPTURE: While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on and the birds of the air ate it up. Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop a hundred times more than was sown. When he said this, he called out, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

OBSERVATION: At first glance of this scripture, I have to laugh to myself a bit. My thought is that this farmer sure has lousy aim when sowing his seed. But thinking about it more, it's not the farmer with lousy aim. The farmer (us) doesn't always have the benefit of nurturing the areas before we spread the seed of God. We need to trust that some seed will take while others will not because of temptations (like the birds), or distractions (like the thorns) or lack of fellowship (needing moisture). This verse also speaks to us as the receiver of the word; the more prepared our ground is, the more prepared we will be to receive what God is giving to us.

APPLICATION: My first reception of this scripture was as a teacher or the sower of the seed. I should not pick and choose where I sow seed, because I may miss an area of fertile soil that is ready to recieve the Word of God. At the same time as a receiver of the Word, I need to make sure that in my life seed will continue to grow.

PRAYER: Lord, I hear you calling every day. I confess that I am not strong enough to rid my life of the thorns that choke out your Word, or find the moisture I need regularly to keep your Word fresh. Help me that I may keep my soil ready to grow your Word, so that I in turn can sow your Word.

YES! I am unpacking the weedwacker to cut down these thorns and a watering can to help keep things growing in my life.

3/11/09 1 Sammuel 7:1-13

What Speaks to You!

SCRIPTURE: So the men of Kirlath Jearim Came and took up the ark of the Lord. They took it to Abinadab's house on the hill and consecrated Eleazar his son to guard the ark of the Lord.
It was a long time, twenty years in all, that the ark remained at Kiriath Jearim, and all the people of Israel mourned and sought after the Lord. And Samuel said to the whole house of Israel, If you are returning to the Lord with all your hearts then rid yourselves of the foreign gods and the ashtoreths and conmit yourselves to the Lord and serve him only and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Phillistines. Sot the Israelites put away their Baals and Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only.
Then Samuel said, Assemble all Istrael at Mizpah and I will intercede with the Lord for you. When they had assembled at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed, "We have sinned against the Lord." And Samuel was leader of Israel at Mizpah. When the Phillistines heard that Israel had assembled at Mizpah, the rulers of the Phillistines came up to attack them. And when the Israelites heard of it, they were afraid because of the Philistines. They said to Samuel, "Do not stop crying out to the Lord our God for us, that he may rescue uss from the hand of the Phillistines. Then Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it up as a whole burnt offering to the Lord, He cried out to the Lord on Israel's behalf and the Lord answered him.
While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Phillistines drew near to engage Isreal in battle. But that day the Lord thundered with loud thunder against the Phillistines and threw them into such a panic that they were routed before the Isrelites. The men of Israel rushed out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, slaughtering them along the way to a point below Beth Car. Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer saying "This far has the Lord Helped us" So the Philistines were subdued and did not invade Israelite territory again. Throughout Samuel's lifetime, the hand of the Lord was against the Phillistines.

OBSERVATION: How confusing this must have been to have an object such as the ark of the Lord and people who worshiped idols and false gods. If one was not instructed correctly, they would believe that they are communicating to the Lord through the ark, thus worshiping became based on worshiping something physical. For example to we worship the cross? No of course not, our relationship is with Christ.

APPLICATION: Keep the real thing the real thing. If I am distracted and not able to spend time with the Lord, maybe I need to look at eliminating whatever is taking that time. It has become a false idol and something more important that God.

PRAYER: Lord, forgive me, I have not spent enough time worshipping you and studying your word. Be with me and give me the streanght to push aside the false idols that consume my time.

YES: I will commit more time in worship and study for the Lord.

3/10/09 Psalm 63:1-8

What Speaks to you?

SCRIPTURE: O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods, with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you throught the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

OBSERVATION: This speaks to a solid relationship. A relationship of love, respect, praise and the need to constantly communicate with God.

APPLICATION: Too many times I feel the relationship that should be strong, but my pride gets in the way and I want to do things myself.

PRAYER: Lord I need you. I need to be close to you and I need to be reminded so many times that you are always there with me. Thank you for the relationship that you have provided for me.

YES: The Lord wants a relationship me today!!

3/9/09 1 John 1:1-4

What speaks to you?

SCRIPTURE: That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched - this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ, We write this to make our joy complete.

OBSERVATION: John experiences and expresses his awareness of the Creator from the beginning of time to the precious gift that He gave us through Jesus Christ. They share what experiences they have and fellowship with others to spread the Good News. John takes this euphoria one step further by spreading the Good News in writing to reach others that he may not be able to see in person.

APPLICATION: Although I enjoy fellowship time, especially when food is involved, I find that sometimes it is easier to express my faith and my spiritual experiences in writing. The point is to share the Good News, whether in writing, personal time, music or art.

PRAYER: Lord, thank you for Jesus, thank you for the Holy Spirit. Keep my heart and eyes focused on you so that I may share my experiences of you to others in whatever way people can understand.

Yes: There are so many ways we can communicate God's Love to others.

3/7/09 1 Corinthians 12:4-10

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse which speaks to you)
Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God is active in everyone and everything. A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person to produce what is beneficial (1 Corinthians 12:4-7).
OBSERVATION:
This is such a powerful passage. Everyone is created differently, but everyone is created with a manifestation (a way of expressing) of the Holy Spirit. This gives us unique ways to life a life with the Lord and in a community of faith.
APPLICATION:
Not only should I accept my gift but I should help others grow and share their gifts.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for this vast multi-talented Body of Christ. Teach me to use my gifts and celebrate the gifts you give others.
YES:
I will celebrate the Spirit given gifts.

3/6/09 Psalm 119:9-16

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share verse which speaks to you)
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy Word. (Psalm 119:9-10).
OBSERVATIOIN:
The Scripture asks the question and provides the answer. The world has many influences that the heart can follow. Scripture (God’s message) provides the rudder that which keeps life on a steady course.
APPLICATION:
I believe God’s message is all about love; loving God and loving neighbor. However, I can be influenced by external choices and options. I must check God’s message to plot my course in life.
PRAYER:
Lord, lead me firmly in your Word, Teach me to search your guidance in all my decisions.
YES:
I will search the Scriptures.

3/5/09 Matthew 25:31-40

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse which speaks to you)
The King will reply, “I will tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of theses brothers of mine, you did to me, (Matthew 25:40)
OBSERVATION:
In parable form, Jesus teaches the essence of ministry and his return. Through Jesus all (from the least to the greatest) can know love, received salvation, and have hope in resurrection.
APPLICATION
I need to be mindful of the opportunities in my life which are times I can serve the Lord by serving others.
PRAYER:
Lord, I thank you that you take care of teaching me and loving me. Show me ways I may serve you by serving others.
YES:
I will serve others in the name of Christ.

3/4/09 Luke 5:17-20

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse which speaks to you)
He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people form all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and fro the coast of Tyre and Sidon who hd come to be hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured. (Luke 5:17-18)
OBSERVATION:
Jesus enters the crowd; enters into the midst of their pain and suffering and heals. He did not remain distant.
APPLICATION:
Still today Jesus meets us in the midst of our pain and suffering. With the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus uses other people to comfort and healing in our world today. Sometimes, I am in the midst of paing and suffering and sometimes I can be the help to others. But Jesus is always in the midst.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for always being by my side. Your comfort and healing is so amazing. Let me share your love for all of my sisters and brothers.
YES:
I will look for Jesus in the midst of pain and suffering.

3/3/09 1 John 2:1-6

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse which speaks to you)
The one who says he abides in Christ ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked (1 John 2: 6).
OBSERVATION:
Professing faith is important but it is lived out in actions.
APPLICATION:
Christ taught us to love God and love others. But this is not just a head and heart thing. We are to love one another by our actions, words, and deeds. It must be real.
PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me when I have loved you with just my heart and head. Teach me your ways so that my actions may reflect your love.
YES:
I will walk with Christ as my guide.

3/2/09 Romans 1:8-17

SCRIPTURE:
(Please share the verse which speaks to you)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. (Romans 1:16a).
OBSERVATION:
The greatest power is available to everyone. It is the Good News; salvation through belief.
APPLICATION:
The power comes with great responsibility. I am not to be ashamed of it. I am to share the Good News of salvation. If I believe I have received God’s saving grace. Then who am I, to hold it. I must share so other might believe.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for your saving power. Fill me with belief and let me live out your Good News.
YES;
I will share Good News.
